Our Programs

Kindred Hearts Cambodia (KHC) is dedicated to empowering communities in Stung Treng through targeted, impactful programs. From addressing urgent healthcare needs to providing mental health support, combating unemployment, and advocating against gender-based violence, KHC’s initiatives are transforming lives. Each program is designed to meet critical gaps in resources, fostering resilience and hope for a brighter future.

KHC Medical Clinic (KHMC)

The medical clinic was the inaugural program initiated by KHC. Kindred Hearts addresses urgent healthcare needs, provides mental health support, while combating unemployment, and advocates against gender-based violence. These programs are transforming lives.

Psychosocial Support Program

Established in 2019, the KHC mental health program was created after a formal needs

assessment determined there was a severe lack of resources for the people in Stung Treng.

There are weekly support group sessions, along with individual counselling and phone

consults, all provided by a local Cambodian lay counsellor. These services are completely free

of charge. The only program of its kind in the entire northeastern region of Cambodia, it is run

entirely by women, for women.

Business Start-up Grant Program

Unemployment is nearly 30 percent in Stung Treng and the surrounding areas. Due to the lack

of job opportunities, many families are impoverished and unable to provide for their children. To

help combat this problem, KHC was awarded a business grant from the Canmore Rotary Club.

This allowed 5 women enough money to either advance their businesses or start a new venture

altogether. KHC is excited to be able to help families out of poverty and hopefully improve the

lives of future generations!

Gender Based Violence (GBV) Support Program

GBV is a global issue, and Cambodia is no exception. Despite eﬀorts to curb violence in the

home, the government is unable to address every case. Many families are unable to aﬀord legal

fees and do not know where to go for help. In 2024, KHC partnered with the Transcultural

Psychosocial Organization Cambodia (TPO) to provide formal training and support to leaders in

Stung Treng. Under the guidance of TPO, KHC will implement a GBV support program in 2025.

This will allow people to seek help, encouragement and support if they are experiencing GBV.
